The groundhog may have predicted 6 more weeks of winter, but runners and avid walkers know spring will be here before we know it–and with it, the flurry of local 5K races begins. Whether you want to train for your first 5K, continue to train to improve your stamina or speed, or just want to increase your activity, the Sports Medicine Department at Cheshire Medical Center has posted 5K training programs for runners, beginning runners, and walkers online to help you get moving.
You don’t need to be an uber-athlete to enjoy the rewards of running. In addition to strengthening muscles and joints, and increasing metabolism, runners and walkers benefit from the mood-boosting hormones produced by brisk exercise. Running or walking can be time for yourself, or with your family or a friend.
